Pastoral Pondering 1/30/2017

Published January 30, 2017 by Reverend Dexter in Blog

Surprise! God sometimes speaks to me in ways or at times that I don’t expect. Earlier this week my spirit was nudged into a deeper awareness of the kind of church that I believe God is calling Imago Dei to be. This is the kind of information is usually what I try to discern prior to a Congregational Meeting or in a group visioning process so that it can be made in a formal statement. But this time I was just sitting quietly when a deeper understanding quietly but clearly came to me in a powerful way. Surprise!

What I came to understand is that right now God wants/needs the ministry of Imago Dei MCC to be focused on three things; nurturing healthy relationships, equipping people to live authentic lives, and creating the kindom among us. God did not give me any specifics of how to fulfill this mission, but now that I believe that this is what God’s desire for our church is, it is my responsibility as your Pastor to insure that how we are being church and whatever we are doing reflects this understanding. That means that I will be using this three-prong statement as a way of assessing our current ministry and developing new ways of being/doing church. If we are not nurturing, equipping and creating then we are not fulfilling God’s purpose and we need to adjust our current ministry and/or create ministry that does.

I encourage you to re-read the surprising understanding that God gave me and pray with it. Let me know what you think about it, how it makes you feel, and what changes or actions you think it is calling us to make.
